Tree Planting Becomes Impromptu Picnic

On 17 March a group of local residents and Transition Town members and friends braved the showers and met on Gibson Green. They were there to plant the second stage of a small fruit tree orchard. About midday one of the neighbours came over to see what we were doing. Shortly afterwards he re- appeared with frying pans full of sausages, bacon & onions plus a pile of hot dog buns. A generous gift of a very welcome lunch. Much fortified the group completed the planting, mulching and fencing of the trees.

The Orchard Group are very grateful for the following help with this part of the Community Orchard :

Horncastle Town Council – £125

LCC Mr Bill Aron – £125

Transition Town Horncastle – £150

Antony Strawson of Stourtons Wood – wood chip mulch.

What Next? Where Next?

The planting for this year is complete. A Tree Care group is being formed to care for the Gibson Green trees in particular watering them in dry weather. If you live close by and would like to help please email
