Horncastle Community Orchard Group

Horncastle Community Orchard Group

Transition Town Horncastle and friends are starting a Community Orchard spread around Horncastle.

Would you like to see fruit trees on open space near you?  Or plant one in your own garden?

Or share in equipment for making juice? Could you share your knowledge on caring for fruit trees?

The first part of the orchard is 20 hazel nut trees planted in the grounds of the Community Centre in January with the help of Horncastle Lions.

The second part is a small fruit orchard at Gibson Green. Local residents & Transition Town members are planting trees here as  part of the community orchard. The trees are a mixture of apples, pears & plums.

Why?

Local food is fresher and tastes better

Fewer food miles means less pollution and what is nearer than your own garden or street?

With the rising cost of fuel the price of fruit from overseas will go on rising.

Caring for the orchard together is a good way to make friends with your neighbours.
