Nearly two years of hard work on the Transition Town Green Babies and Toddlers project by Horncastle mother-of-three, Jenny Davey, have been rewarded by the British Gas Award for Community Leadership. The award was presented at the recent Celebration Event in Leicester for the Midlands Green Streets projects, with each one having been given around £140 000-worth of energy saving and generating measures for community buildings and families in their area.
The award recognised the lengths Jenny and others in the team went to involve the community in the energy project, orgnaising awareness-raising events, fund-raisers, parties, visits and more, for local people, often with a focus on the under five age-group.
As part of the Leicester event, the Green Babies and Toddlers team had to present to a panel of judges in order to compete for a further £100 000 for another energy project for the town. They will find out if they have been shortlisted for the prize at the end of the month, with a further competition to select the finalist to come after that.
