LATEST NEWS ON OUR DANISH COFFEE MORNING
Held on Saturday 24 October at The Community Centre.
Thank you all for your wonderful support. We raised over £300 in just under 3 hours!
To raise awareness of the 350 campaign (350 website), we started off with a parade through Horncastle Market Place at around 9 am and then held our Danish Coffee Morning in the Community Centre. Lots of people came and looked at the displays & talked about energy saving at the EST table and about CO2 reduction at the 350 table or found out more about Transition Towns. There was story telling, children’s games, a variety of interesting items on the produce stall, a real nappies table, Green Streets info, a wonderful selection of books and toys to play with and for sale. There was a very interesting and informative talk by Geoff Stratford. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yL0GgiG1rZ0 The Danish pastries were really good too!
Events are planned all over the world. I particularly liked the song from Traverse City, Michigan on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvFfFXOOmp8 although it made me a bit home sick as we lived in Michigan for 7 years and recognised a lot of the places. There are lots more videos and pics of preparations for 350 events as well as the facts and figures driving us on the 350.org web site. Have fun watching and then come and join us at the Horncastle Community Centre.
I was all set to come to what sounds as though it will be a great event in Horncastle, when I realised that driving over from Louth wasn’t quite in the spirit of the day! As I’m unlikely to make the 0855 bus from Louth and the next one doesn’t arrive in Horncastle until after you’ve finished, I’ll just wish you lots of success in raising awareness. Congratulations on your website. Looks great, although I haven’t had a good look round yet. I’ll be back.

A VITAL JOURNEY
Carbon emissions, Climate Change and the link between them are well accepted facts of life. For Life to continue on earth as we know it we must reduce carbon emissions from the present level of about 380 particles per million (ppm) to 350ppm. http://www.350.org
HOW TO MAKE THE JOURNEY ?
Our Coffee morning was just a start. Some ideas for the next steps..
Step 1 COPENHAGEN—OUR PART AS AN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY
• Write to our MP and the Minister for the Environment for effective international action at COPENHAGEN.
Step 2 OUR PART AS INDIVIDUALS
• Reduce your Carbon Emissions:
• See where you stand: calculate your carbon footprint now or at http://www.resurgence.org/resources/carbon-calculator
• Take the 1010 pledge to personally reduce by 10% in 2010 see http://www.1010UK.org
• Go on a Carbon Fast see http://www.tearfund.org
• Learn to Live Lightly see http://www.arocha.org.uk/livinglightly
• Learn more about the issues see the film Age of Stupid 7:30, 13 Nov at Horncastle College. The film will be followed by a Q&A time with a panel including our MEP Mr Newton Dunn.
Step 3 MORE PRESSURE FOR ACTION AT COPENHAGEN
• Join in a WAVE event 5 Dec 2009 see http://www.stopclimatechaos.org/the-wave
Step 4 OUR PART AS A COMMUNITY
